I. POSITION PURPOSE

Oversees the maintenance and care of the physical facility to ensure that:
   o The structural integrity of the buildings is maintained.
   o The image of the parish is enhanced in the community.
   o The parish physical environment is healthy for all building occupants.

 

II. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Administers daily and long-term maintenance consistent with established policies and good operational practices in safety, energy management, janitorial, security, and grounds.
   o Purchases supplies and equipment as appropriate for maintenance needs.
   o Develops, maintains, and implements a schedule of routine maintenance including seasonal service (e.g. HVAC, sprinklers, emergency equipment, etc).
   o Coordinates with outside service businesses and contractors to ensure appropriate maintenance of parish facilities.

B. Maintains parish-owned machinery and building systems including coordinating regular inspection and certification as appropriate.
   o Establishes and maintains schedule of inspection and certification. Initiates, as needed, efforts to ensure timely compliance with regulatory and safety needs.
   o Researches and recommends outside service providers to enhance the work of staff and volunteers caring for the physical facilities.

C. Regularly reviews the overall condition of the parish facilities, initiating service and repair plans as appropriate.

D. Directs the parish safety program using both common sense and Archdiocesan safety guidelines.
   o Provides regular training and safety updates to staff and volunteers.
   o Oversees kitchen use certification, including food handler permits. Maintains schedule of recertification and advises groups of upcoming certificate expiration.

E. Provides input to PAA and Finance Council on operating and capital budget forecasts and plans. Coordinates with PAA and Finance Council to establish priorities and long range plans for plant operations and maintenance.
   o Coordinates parish energy and resource management program, including recycling and other ‘green’ initiatives.

F. Coordinates with staff and volunteers to maintain appropriate inventories of needed supplies—cleaning supplies and equipment, hospitality supplies (kitchen, restroom, etc)—reordering as appropriate.

G. Regular reporting of facility condition status.

III. SECONDARY FUNCTIONS

A. Available on call for emergencies. Participates in the call list for when building alarm is activated.

B. Participates in staff meetings and team building activities. Attends relevant Diocesan training sessions.

C. Ensures necessary facilities-related support to all parish programs and special events. This includes setup of rooms and audio-visual systems for meetings and events.

D. Performs other duties as assigned.

IV. QUALIFICATIONS

A. Demonstrated competence in the various building trades and mechanical systems.

B. Understanding of and experience successfully managing contracts and complying with regulations regarding construction and machinery maintenance issues.

C. Demonstrated ability to coordinate volunteers effectively to complete projects well.

D. Ability to manage a work schedule to ensure that the objectives of the position are achieved efficiently.

E. Commitment to good business and work practices that demonstrate integrity and competence in action.

F. A cheerful, positive, and appreciative attitude.

V. GENERAL INFORMATION

This position is anticipated to be 30 hours/week, with benefits. In addition, the person who fills this position will serve a key role in helping to strengthen the parish community through a consistent attitude of servant leadership and commitment to high professional standards. Compensation dependent on qualifications and experience.
