Communications

The responsibilities and tasks for the Communications ministry are broad and diverse. In addition to our traditional, in-person communications (printed bulletins, flyers, and posters), we have had an explosion of electronic communication needs. We are now using our computers and other devices to attend Mass, receive digital bulletins with links to more information, hear lectures from internationally known guest speakers, have meetings, and stay in contact with our fellow parishioners, just to name a few.

Juggling all of that information and technology is an ongoing challenge, one that is embraced by a number of our parishioners. Does this ministry call you? If so, email stewardship@sthubertchurch.org to join the Communications ministry.

Here are some of the areas where the Communications ministry is present.

Bulletin & Emails

The Communications team helps the parish office by editing and writing content, creating inserts, finding and providing links to online sources of information, etc.

The decisions about what topics and information are included in these communications is solely at the discretion of the parish office. Announcements for the bulletin should be emailed to the parish office at sthubert@whidbey.com. The deadline for submitting announcements is Monday for the following Sunday’s bulletin.

Narthex TV

Using information from the bulletin and other sources, the Communications team creates the slides for the narthex TV. In addition, the team posts the slides on the website and shows them at the beginning and end of the live-streamed Sunday Mass on Facebook.

Online Presence – Facebook, YouTube, Zoom, etc.

The Communications team is constantly stretching and learning how to bring more information to the parishioners. We are using many formats to share the following and more.

  • live-streaming of Mass on Facebook
  • providing videos on Facebook of events like past Masses and parishioners leading the Rosary
  • guest lectures and workshops via Zoom
  • website links to daily readings, Saint of the Day, and other Catholic news
Publicity

Whether it is designing a flyer, posting information on our website, or placing an ad in the local newspapers or on Drew’s List, you can be assured that some or all of that is being done by the Communications team.

Website

And, of course it goes without saying, designing and maintaining the website is a huge part of the work done by the Communications team.
