Exploring the Role of Women
in the Easter Story

with
Barbara Reid, OP
President of Catholic Theological Union

Carroll Stuhlmueller, C.P. Distinguished Professor of New Testament Studies

In each of the four gospels women are the first to discover the empty tomb, and in two of them, they are the first to encounter the risen Christ. Each of the four accounts is distinct in the way the story is told and how it authenticates (or not!) the women’s authority in the believing community.

Each year the St. Hubert Lecture features a significant scholar to share some of the breadth and depth of the Catholic intellectual and spiritual tradition. Lectures are scheduled for late April as part of the Mystagogia, highlighting that the Easter Season invites us to explore the meaning of the mystery of our faith.

More about Mystagogia
“…Traditionally, this period is called the Mystagogia, a deepening of our understandings in the mysteries of our faith. For the newly initiated into the faith, this period is the final stage for the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. For we veteran believers this period provides a time for “shaking-up” and reaffirming our life in the Holy Spirit. While all of us can always benefit from a renewal of our spirituality, this period after Easter is the “high octane” celebration of an extended Easter season…”

The first St. Hubert Lecture was presented by Fr. Ron Rolheiser, OMI, on November 1, 2020. Parishioners and people from nineteen states and eight countries around the world tuned in via Zoom. More than 130 people heard Fr. Ron speak about The Lives of the Saints – From Early Christian Martyrs to People Magazine. Fr. Ron drew from history, linguistics, art, and sociology to present a talk filled with insight and punctuated with humor.

Named for our parish’s patron saint, the St. Hubert Lecture series helps honor the life and transformation of Hubert of Aquitaine, who became the first Bishop of Liege in the 8th century. Today, with the increasing awareness of the need for a new way to view and value the created world, Hubert’s life illustrates a conversion to understanding how all things are interconnected. This inaugural lecture was a perfect fit for All Saints’ Day and to honor St. Hubert, whose feast day is November 3.
